De boom die door het dak groeide - Prentenboek
De boom die door het dak groeide - Prentenboek
In a faraway land, a man and a woman live in their little house on the edge of the forest. They are poor and have to work hard to earn a meager meal, yet they are always cheerful and happy. Every year in autumn, the man ventures deep into the forest. In a clearing there stands a large, stately oak tree. He gathers the fallen acorns and works until the cellar of his little house is full. In the winter, the man peels the acorns, the woman grinds them between heavy millstones into flour, and from the flour she bakes the most delicious acorn cakes. When one day in spring the acorn supply runs out, a single acorn remains in the cellar. This acorn shines so beautifully that the man and woman give it a safe place in the cellar. Soon, the acorn sprouts, its roots find their way into the soil of the cellar floor, and the little oak tree grows and grows. The man and woman faithfully care for the tree, and when the oak tree grows through the roof of their cottage and bears its first fruit, they are rewarded for their care. Based on a Balkan fairy tale motif, Marjan van Zeyl has created a picture book that vividly captures the intimate atmosphere of forest and plant life and the simplicity and tranquility of rural life. A beautiful picture and read-aloud book for preschoolers aged 4 and up.
